El Cazador
About This Spot
Stepping into El Cazador in Monticello, you’re welcomed by a space that strikes an inviting balance between spirited and unpretentious — a local gathering spot where the rhythms of Latin America gently mingle with the warmth of Kentucky hospitality. The atmosphere unfolds at an easy pace, perfect for settling in with friends, savoring conversation, or simply watching the world drift by over a well-crafted margarita.
The decor hints at a unique character, blending vibrant touches and familiar comforts, creating a setting that feels both thoughtfully curated and effortlessly lived-in. This isn’t a place that rushes you; it’s where moments stretch a little longer, punctuated by the clinking of glasses and the sizzle from the kitchen.
Here, the menu echoes the heart of Mexican and Latin American traditions without overwhelming you with choices. Imagine the aroma of freshly made tortillas mingling with savory hints of carne asada street tacos, while plates of fajitas — vibrant with peppers and tender meats — arrive hot and inviting. The experience is layered with thoughtful touches, like house-made sauces that carry a subtle heat and guacamole that tastes of freshness with every bite.
Beyond the food, there’s a genuine sense of place fostered by attentive, friendly staff who make accommodations feel effortless. While the pace of service allows for a relaxed dining experience, it also encourages diners to engage with the space in their own way — whether lingering over a shared platter or popping in for a quick, satisfying meal after a lakeside afternoon.
El Cazador is the kind of spot that reveals itself gradually — not just through its food, but in the human moments that unfold around the tables. It’s a cozy yet lively invitation to experience a slice of Latin American culture grounded in local charm.

I am picky about Mexican restaurants and I have to say this hit too 5 in my book. Spent the weekend at the lake and randomly chose this place to get some Mexican food on cinco de mayo. The prices were amazing, our server was amazing, loved the unique decor, and the food was OUTSTANDING. And the margaritas were very good quality as well. I had the enchiladas Del Mar and choriqueso. Cannot wait to go back again!

Great spot for just about any occasion, staff is super friendly and at no hesitation are willing to make accommodations of any reasonable request. Great food, decent ambiance. In The little time that I spent in Monticello, I probably visited roughly 7 times and never disappointed. Check it out and try some delicious Mexican delights

First timer. Went in on a Thursday night. Love the vibe. What worked: greeted and seated right away, drink order at the same time. Chips and salsa were ample and on point. Food was ordered and brought out in a timely manner. Why 4 stars? What didn't work: the server brought the food and never came back, not even with the bill. We had to get up and seek out condiments, and then seek out the bill (which we were able to get at the register). All in all, a great first experience and we will come back! Thanks. P.S. To the long table of women with kids. Bravo, most of them were funny and cute. We enjoyed watching them. To the woman whose toddler screamed and cried the ENTIRE time we were there. Maybe next time you should take your food to go and get that baby home. It was miserable for everyone there. I'm a mom I get it, kids cry. But when you are unable to calm them, it is time to go. Even your friends were exasperated.
